Richard Paul Woolson was born in Spokane, Washington, one of five children to the late Betty Ann and John Woolson. Richard graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Music Performance (Flute) in 1971. He also obtained a Master's degree in Education from George Mason University in 2001. Richard worked as a special education teacher for Arlington County Public Schools for over 25 years. As a devoted educator, he went above and beyond to help his students inside and outside the classroom. His passions included his family and friends, gardening, crossword...

Richard Paul Woolson was born in Spokane, Washington, one of five children to the late Betty Ann and John Woolson. Richard graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Music Performance (Flute) in 1971. He also obtained a Master's degree in Education from George Mason University in 2001. Richard worked as a special education teacher for Arlington County Public Schools for over 25 years. As a devoted educator, he went above and beyond to help his students inside and outside the classroom. His passions included his family and friends, gardening, crossword puzzles, helping his neighbors, and working with his hands.

Richard died peacefully in Wilmington, NC surrounded by his family on Monday, August 7, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Milagros of Centreville, VA; his daughters Melissa Prunchak (Greg) of Alexandria, VA; Rebecca of Alexandria, VA; Jessica, of Raleigh, NC; his son, Joseph of Welches, OR; his sister, Anne Campbell (Gary) of Allen TX; and brother, Fr. Bert Woolson of Winamac, IN; his grandchildren Berrie, Shawn, and Lenae; numerous nieces and nephews; and a tremendous number of friends that he held near to his heart. Richard will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather whose greatest passion was helping others.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 6720 Union Mill Road, Clifton, VA.

Following the Mass of Christian Burial, an internment will take place at Fairfax Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032 in the Garden of the Blessed Mother.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in his memory to Fairfax County Court Appointed Special Advocate (fairfaxcasa.org) or Autism Society of North Carolina (autismsociety-nc.org).
